Dr. Stephen Galloway

Dr. Galloway is a native of Memphis, Tennessee, and is a veteran of the US Army. He graduated from the United States Military Academy (West Point) in 1986 with a BS in Engineering, and received his DVM from North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1996. He practiced in the Texas Panhandle before returning to Fayette County in 1999.  He and his wife, Melanie (NCSU-CVM 1996), own Animal Care Hospital (ACH), a mixed animal practice in Oakland. Dr. Galloway is a Fellow of the Academy of Veterinary Dentistry, and he sees companion animal patients for primary level dental care and on referral from other veterinarians. His professional interest is equine dentistry and oral, maxillofacial, & sinus surgery.  He has published and lectured on these topics internationally, and is actively involved in the planning of veterinary dental training for the American Association of Equine Practitioners and other veterinary associations.  He and Melanie live on the family farm with their triplets (Ashley, Heather, and Miller), and his father (Rex).  The Galloways enjoy outdoor activities and adventures.

Dr. "Bo" Crabtree

Dr. Douglas "Bo" Crabtree received his Bachelor of Science degree from Arkansas State and his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Louisiana State University. He has practiced large and small animal medicine in Louisiana and Tennessee for the past 23 years. He currently is co-owner of the Critter Clinic in Tennessee in Gallatin. He is active in the Morning Rotary, Explorers, and the County Leadership Program. He attends St. Joseph Church in Madison. He has 2 grown daughters, Lisa and Karen. He and his wife, Chris, reside in Gallatin with their 9 cats and 1 Yorkie.

Dr. Joe Ed Conn graduated from the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1991.  A native of Nashville, he received a BS in Animal and Dairy Science in 1987 (also from Auburn).  For the past 14 years, Dr. Conn has practiced small animal medicine and surgery at Belle Meade Animal Hospital in Nashville.  Prior to that, he practiced at Goodlettsville Animal Hospital in Goodlettsville, Tennessee.  Dr. Conn lives in Whites Creek with his wife Michelle, son Ethan, and two dogs, two cats, three horses, one guinea pig, and 8 chickens. In his spare time, he enjoys gardening and hunting and farming on family property in Kentucky.  He has led a veterinary team on medical mission trips to Honduras twice in the last three years.

Dr. Dennis Geiser

Dr. Geiser was born and raised in California. He graduated from Colorado State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in microbiology in 1968. He received his DVM degree from the University of Illinois in 1972 after which he practiced in a small animal –equine practice in San Jose, CA. In 1974 he entered an equine residency program at Michigan State University followed by employment in an equine referral practice in Ocala, FL. In 1978 he was recruited by the newly established College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.  At UTCVM he started as a clinician in equine medicine and surgery. As the College advanced and specialty training was developed, he began teaching and providing large animal anesthesia and pain management. Dr. Geiser is a Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners – Equine. In 1996 he became Head of the department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences in the College of Veterinary Medicine and in 2005 Assistant Dean of Organizational Development and Outreach. Currently Dr. Geiser continues to teach in the veterinary curriculum in the areas of equine respiratory diseases, pain management, and hyperbaric medicine.

Dr. Jim Thompson is dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Tennessee. He graduated from Purdue with a BS in biology in 1976 and then headed to the University of Florida where he earned his DVM and PhD degrees. He is board-certified in internal medicine, oncology, and medical microbiology. While at UF, he rose through the academic ranks to tenured professor with joint appointments in the veterinary and medical colleges. As a capstone to his career in Florida, he served as executive associate dean of the college of veterinary medicine. Dr. Thompson and his wife Joan have three wonderful children; Jimmy, Allison, and Brett Marie

Dr. Bass has an extensive backgrond in service to both her clients and to organzied veterinary medicine. Dr. Bass founded Village Veterinary Clinic & Laser Center in 1982 and sold that practice to her associates in 2003. She has served on the Board of Examiners along with holding many positions with the TVMA and AVMA where she is currently the Chair for the Governance Performance Review Committee. In 2005 she was awarded the TVMA Distinguished Service Award. She has worked as a relief veterinarian and veterinary consultant in the Hawaiian Islands, and for the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine as a facilitator for Application Based Learning Experiences. She is a diplomat of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners. Dr. Bass is also a Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist, and currently sees companion animals on a referral basis for acupuncture therapy. She owns and manages Dream Katcher Lodge. She and her husband Richard live in Farragut, TN.

 Dr. Mark B. Garrett grew up in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. He started his undergraduate studies at Carson Newman College and then transferred to the University of Tennessee at Knoxville where he received a B.S. in Animal Science in 1975. Auburn University presented Dr. Garrett with his DVM degree in 1979. Over the last thirty years, Dr. Garrett has practiced Small Animal Medicine and Surgery in several hospitals along Interstate I-75, North of Knoxville. He was the founder and original owner of the Clinton Animal Hospital, Norris Vet Animal Hospital, Animal Hospital of Campbell County, and original part owner of the After Hours Pet Emergency Clinic in West Knoxville. Outside of practice, Dr. Garrett is active in many civil, professional, and consulting positions. On the Board of Health in two counties, he also is an animal control-shelter consultant for several municipalities, and was two-time president of the Clinton Rotary Club. He is a member of AVMA, TVMA, ACVMA, and an associate member of KVMA, as well as being on the LMU Vet Tech Advisory Board for many years. Dr. Garrett recently retired his knees from nearly forty years of competitive volleyball which included playing for U.T.'s and A.U.'s Club Teams, followed by competition in local, regional, and national tournaments.

Dr. Lauren Olavessen received her DVM from the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine in Knoxville, TN.  She joined a small animal clinic in Memphis, TN as an associate veterinarian where she practiced until 2007.  She currently holds the position of Technical Service Veterinarian for Merial Limited.
Dr. Olavessen serves as the current President of the Memphis/Shelby County Veterinary Medical Association and holds memberships with the AVMA, TVMA, and the American Heartworm Society.  She resides in Bartlett, TN, with her husband, Steve.
